FMCSA has released the Random Drug and Alcohol Testing Rates for 2024.  The rates have been confirmed to stay at 50% for Drug and 10% for Alcohol, which has been the standard since 2020.  Because there were no changes to the rates, a publish in the Federal Register was not warranted.  FCMSA reviews MIS reports provided by Motor Carriers and Clearinghouse data to determine when testing rates need to be adjusted.  Each DOT Agency has their own testing percentages, and some motor carriers are subject to more than one agency.  To see the full breakdown of testing rates, visit https://www.transportation.gov/odapc/random-testing-rates.

Motor carriers that employ drivers operating CMVs with a gross weight of 26,001+ lbs are subject to a random testing program, in addition to pre-employment drug testing and Clearinghouse registration, pre-employment and annual queries.  The combination of these programs ensures that drivers with open SAP (substance abuse programs) or disqualifying substance use are removed from safety sensitive positions or enrolled in follow-up testing as required.
