FMCSA Targets Falsified ELD Records in New Approach: TT Equipment

Even though drivers are using Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) to track their Hours of Service (HOS), it’s essential to routinely review these records for potential falsification.  While ELDs automate record-keeping, they do not completely eliminate the possibility of tampering or exceeding HOS limits.  Records are still able to be manipulated, for example, by establishing multiple log-ins for a driver, falsifying personal conveyance details, tampering with devices, etc.  Regularly auditing these records helps ensure compliance with federal regulations, maintains road safety, and protects both drivers and the company from potential penalties or legal issues.
