National Distracted Driving Enforcement April 6-13, 2020
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will have its annual National Distracted Driving Enforcement Mobilization April 6-13, 2020. The point of this campaign is to raise public awareness about the consequences of texting and driving with a target audience of men and women ages eighteen to thirty-four.
NHTSA is the leading organization to fight and raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving by partnering with states and local police. By creating a strong presence of law enforcement on the roads, this campaign raises awareness to not text and drive. They also have public service announcements, share stories and tips on their social media to help raise awareness.
In 2017, 3,166 people were killed in a motor vehicle accident involving distracted drivers. Distracted driving is considered to be any activity that causes a driver’s attention to be taken away from driving. Many states have created laws against distracted driving as a first offense.
